Nope, mine definitely has a shield, or at least something arc-y. I have a bunch of the globe ones. Thread posted; there's apparently an option I missed that fits the design (though not the size) better but is even rarer.

A long overdue bump while I'm thinking of it. We are looking for coins from the decade of the 410s.
@j1m, where did you net out on that LRB?

Quote: @j1m, where did you net out on that LRB? Nothing new that isn't on the thread, I think. IIRC I shared it in a few other places but there wasn't much discussion... Now that I've looked at it (and its tall bust) again I think I can rule out the Arcadius AE2 with its Hand of God bust, but I'm not sure if there's a way to rule out the Theodosius II VRTVS AE4. (Maybe by mintmark... the Theodosius II version would be TR, while one of the options for the Honorius version is CON which looks like it could match my coin? We should still probably discuss it in the linked thread, though.)

Sorry that we weren't able to really help you that much dating that LRB @j1m.

I just bumped the V3.0 thread of OFED, so it seems appropriate to also bump this one. Anyone got a coin minted starting in the date range of 410 to 419 AD?

Should I bump the linked thread? I think my coin (which I no longer have access to) might be from the 410s, but I wanted more opinions and it felt like there just weren't enough.
I'll have to check my photo folder for whether I've made other pics of that coin before losing access. I do vaguely recall doing so...
EDIT: apparently I misremembered the timing. The photos in the linked thread are in fact the very latest pics in my entire coin photo folder; I lost access to that part of my collection shortly afterwards (within days of making the thread). Hopefully I'll return some day... was planning to but then the war started.

Progress! It was September of 2021 when this thread last saw backwards progress, but I'm very excited to share with you this Visigoth Siliqua in the name of Honorius. As with so many coins of this time, the dates are a bit fuzzy, but it seems in scope for us based on the descriptions that I am seeing out of CNG (when this coin was auctioned off in 2009) and Frank Robinson. However, best I can tell, the the date should be 415 to 425 AD and the attribution RIC X 3703 (variant with an extra G in the rev legend). I'm convinced that we can move back a decade, but I'm interested to hear from others more knowledgeable about these things before we start posting coins of the decade 400-409 AD. Thx. Added: I'm also interested in any thoughts you might have on the chip at 3 o'clock on the obv. Using my Sigma tester, I see that the silver content is a bit less than 90%, but am always wary of these sorts of problems.

Well, I can't comment on the date attribution, but it looks like a heckuva nice coin for that difficult-to-find deade or era, regardless of how others weigh in .

Quote: but it looks like a heckuva nice coin for that difficult-to-find decade or era, regardless of how others weigh in Apparently there's an upcoming auction that has two examples of the "more common" AVGG variety, with 200 euro estimates on both. (They're calling it a "half siliqua" but I couldn't find any difference from other sources' full siliquas.) I'm seeing a bunch of alternative datings (418-423, 415-423, 415-417, "circa AD 415", and the upcoming auction I linked even says 414-415), but all of those options match the "under 10 years and starting in the requested decade" rule. (A few sources also say 415-507, but that sounds a bit too implausibly long.) Might as well repost my original uncertain "probably 410s but hard to tell" coin... 16 mm, 2.93 grams (large AE4 or very small AE3) probably Tesorillo 49, Esty 53 (Honorius AE3, 411-413) a few other options are just about possible but don't quite match the size, and/or should have other design elements not seen here

Ok yes thx for weighing in. I feel good enough about our dating on these to move back a decade. Bring on the coins minted starting in the decade of 400 to 409 AD!
