Hi guys, how does one spot a proof coin ? This one has a slight mirrored surface.

That doesn't look like a proof to me. It looks like someone polished it.

Assuming your coin is a Philly mint, here is a link to the VAM-8 listing for the 1881 proof issue http://www.vamworld.com/1881-P+VAM-8

I'm not seeing the die markers on the date of your coin but there are a couple of other on the reverse die that you can check for.

One distinctive characteristic is at the rim the transition to the edge will be very square and sharp.

That aside, your example has the earmarks of a polished business strike.
