We have to give Coronet credit for such a wonderful thread. I've learned a good deal already.
The only bad thing is that I've actually looked at a few $5 modern commems. Looking is so very close to button pushing.
Must maintain my composure until after the type set is done.

I agree, Mox, kudos to Coronet on this thread. Unlike you, though, I've refrained from even looking at the moderns, as I'm still far enough away in completing the early silvers. Even at the Sarasota show, I purposely looked away from the moderns, even though I'd really like to get the 2008 Eagle that was posted earlier.

Quote: I do like and have all three of the proof civil war coins but only have the $5 on postable photos. I really like that Civil War $5, @muddler - thanks for sharing. I started to collect the modern golds and then stopped, but maybe I should reconsider.

Looking at the above CW commem, I can't think of a more powerful image on a US coin.

Cleveland is one of the coins that you can buy for very reasonable prices up to MS-65. 66 would not be considered a high priced item within the CSC type, and 67 is not impossible. If you want a beautiful commem, most found stark white, in MS 63 or 64 you may be plesently surprised by the affordable prices. Best place to buy - Heritage Tuesday night auctions.

mox - that's why I have 3... they're cheap as all get out. I got the 66, as I really do like some color. Blast white is alright, but I like the color. I'm weird.

Enjoying your lovey Cleveland photos ... here is one to consider: 1936 Cleveland Centennial Half Dollar - PCGS VF30 A lovely member of the circulated classic silver commemorative type set ... and amazing how it came to be this way.

Those are great Columbias. How did I not remember those? They don't look familiar at all.
