Bad Dog - have you made an "established" price list for the moderns that you considered for purchasing?
If you had such a list of what was a "good" price, I'm sure I would not be the only one who would love to see that.

Quote: I should probably polish this slab someday, any suggestions on the best technique and polishing compound On the recommendation of many forums, I picked up a bottle of Plast-X from my local auto parts store. It does a good job on light scratches, but deep scratches are almost impossible (I find) to get out.

Quote: I realize today is Thomas Edison day ... but in the spirit of ensuring the record eventually has a complete 50 coin type set of honestly circulated classic silver commemorative ... I'll use today as my catch up day to include the 4 examples that were posted during my absence. Well done.

Quote: I have to say that the Edison seems to be completely uninspired I'm inclined to agree though I do like the fullness and symmetry of the reverse. This piece has been off and on my short list as I've focused on more classic pieces and I'm still recovering from some spotty purchases.

Quote: Bad Dog - have you made an "established" price list for the moderns that you considered for purchasing? Mox, No, I don't have a price list, but I do try and follow some guidelines. My first rule of thumb is to buy the coins at less than the original Mint issue price. My second rule of thumb is to buy the coins at 95% of recent (past year) average auction (eBay/Heritage/Great Collections) prices. My last rule of thumb is to buy the coins at 70% of the PCGS price guide price. Generally following these guidelines, I've purchased 52 coins over the past 14 months. These coins were PCGS69DCAMs (50) and PCGS70DCAMs (2). I was able to get 41/52 coins at less than the original Mint issue price. The average price for all 52 coins was about 96% of the Mint's original pre-issue prices for the coins. Like they say, should you decide to try my rules of thumb, your mileage will vary, but they've worked pretty well for me. Of course, I still have to get 9 coins that they haven't worked so well for so far

GR58 - Thanks for sharing the original packaging. The Edison actually looks much more appealing in that container. Seeing the printed photo as it appears on the coin, and the way the reverse is highlighted into the design makes it interesting.

Better images of Ike, to me, than on the regular dollar coin.
