Worn Out - that peripheral bullseye toning makes me drool. Now I have to clean up my key board.

My Illinois:

One of the handful of CSC commemoratives in my collection. All of my CSC coins are raw as I collected them before the TPGs existed...

The Illinois (Lincoln) half is readily available in circulated state ... being a member of the 'Pre-Depression' era of classic commemorative.

True lowball that are honest and certifiable remain a numismatic challenge ... the current PCGS lowball is certified as FR02 with 4 examples.

Worn Out example shown on the prior page is one of the four FR02 examples.

Here is my circulated example ... just a bit shy:

1918 Illinois Centennial Half Dollar - PCGS AG03

I enjoy the fact that Lincoln face 'ages' as the coin becomes lower in grade ...

Enjoy

We spoke earlier in this thread about 'strike quality' ... and how an educated collector of the classic silver commemorative series could know which examples are worth waiting for and which will never appear fully struck up with the definition so common on the modern set.

Today's coin ... 1918 Illinois (Lincoln) is one of the examples of the classic silver set where waiting on a coin with outstanding strike quality can be worthwhile.

I've truly resisted posting anything from my complete MS type set ... but in the spirit of education and sharing will bend that rule a bit.

Below is a poor photograph of my 1918 Illinois ... note if you can the outstanding strike details everywhere ... best seen on the feathers of the reverse Eagle neck. I looked through a LOT of coins to find this one ... so there are indeed occasions and coins in the classic set where patience for the hunt will pay off.

There are other coins in the classic silver set where strike quality can/will matter ... hopeful that we can cover them as they come up ... for now:

1918 Illinois Centennial Half Dollar - PCGS MS66+/CAC

Now returning my contributions to honestly circulated coins.

Enjoy

Thanks @nickelsearcher, I don't have this yet so it's nice to learn more before I start looking.

I have to say, that is one fierce-looking eagle on the reverse!

The 64 looks like a normal coin in hand. It's another one I have to reshoot (probably won't though any time soon).

This is the first commemorative coin I ever purchased, over 35 years ago now

The Iowa Centennial Half Dollar was a must have coin for me as I was born and raised in Iowa. I visited the Old Stone Capitol in Iowa City a few times back when I was going to grad school at the University of Iowa (It's on the Univ of Ia campus). The Old Stone Capitol was the last territorial and first state capitol building of Iowa (Des Moines became the capitol in 1857).

The CCF write-up on this coin is pretty good. Check it out here.

The coin is raw, as are all of my CSC coins
