This is a fun thread, not a doctorate thesis.

Well stated moxking ... and I concur.

My only concern was the preservation of this thread as an ultimate CCF commemorative resource ... but the votes are in and all coins are welcome.

My intention for the balance of the scheduled thread days is to display PCGS certified honestly circulated examples from the classic silver set ... anyone who wishes to show modern State Quarters is welcome to do so I suppose.

Best - David

This is probably my least favorite commem. Calvert's eyes creep me out, and the reverse is, well, [yawn], less than exciting to say the least.

I don't even like my example, and I looked for one for a long time. This was the first one I came across that Calvert's right eye didn't look ultra-creepy. Yes, I know that's all in the lighting, but...

The coin with the creepy eyes is the five star genneral dollar.

Generally available in the market place in circulated state ... an example appears once a year or so at XF or lower.

I never considered that ... take a new look at my honestly circulated example ... any better for you?

Not one of my favorites, either. Not my least favorite, but certainly in the bottom ten. There just isn't anything exciting about this half dollar.

I couldn't find my reverse, and I quit looking after a few minutes. The scratches on the obverse across the portrait are on the holder, not the coin.

If you have any kin in Louisiana, Frog, let me know.

My wife is visiting there for the next week and she eats frog legs like a Marine. I'll ask her to spare your relatives.

The Maryland half. It sure was hard to find one that I liked. Most of the ones I saw had too much chatter on the bust or unpleasant toning.

I see what you mean. It's his left eye that looks out of sorts to me. Either way he suffers from lazy eye. Also don't like the obverse toning on my coin. Nevertheless...

and here are proof versions of both the silver dollar and the half eagle commemoratives. The bit of toning on the half eagle is much more apparent in the photo versus in-hand ...

TreeMonkey - I really don't find the obverse toning to be off putting on your Maryland. Partial toning is a bear for that issue and yours does not suffer unduly.

I really like the Medal of Honor commemoratives. Yest another reason to make them a goal after my type completion. In this instance I do like the proof better.

Beautiful examples BadDog - thanks for sharing them.
