Authorized by PL 112-104, the U.S. Marshals 225th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program commemorates the establishment of the Nation's first Federal law enforcement agency, the United States Marshals Service. The US Marshals were established in 1789 by the Judiciary Act of 1789, which was passed by the very first session of the Congress to establish the federal court system. Here are my examples of the proof Half Eagle and Silver Dollar... I like the designs of these coins, but it's seems quite a stretch to me to say that the reverse of the half eagle coin is Quote: emblematic of the sacrifice and service of the men and women of the United States Marshals Service who lost their lives in the line of duty as required by the authorizing law.

The Marshals coins are great designs -- among my favorites.

I love these Marshals too, both sides, silver and gold (which is unusual -- usually it's one or the other, if either).

Anyone have the Marshal's half dollar coin? I don't have one and so couldn't post a photo, but I think that design is a good one as well

One of five coins authorized by PL 103-186 on Dec 14, 1993, the American Prisoners of War commemorative silver dollar was part of the American Veterans Commemorative Coins program (the other two being Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Women in Military Service for America Memorial coins). The design of the coin was to Quote: be emblematic of the experience of Americans who have been prisoners-of-war. The reverse of the coin features the National Prisoner of War Museum at Andersonville, Ga. which opened in 1998. Although Andersonville is associated with the US Civil War, the museum encompasses POWs from all of the wars that the US has fought in. Here's my example of the proof silver dollar. Although it was stored in dry, climate controlled spaces in the original US Mint packaging until I had it graded last year, time was not kind to the coin. At PR66DCAM it is the "worst" coin of any of my modern commemoratives (although I will say that the milk spotting is not as noticeable in-hand with no magnification versus the photos).

The month of May is being closed out with the last of a 12 coin run of modern commemoratives, the United Services Organization 50th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Dollar. Authorized by PL 101-404, the USO commemorative coin was to Quote: be emblematic of the services provided by the USO to military service personnel and families. IMHO, the coins fairly plain design does not do justice to the intent of the authorization. Here's my example of the proof silver dollar...

Quote: The month of May is being closed out with the last of a 12 coin run of modern commemoratives I've enjoyed viewing the coins and appreciate all of the contributions. Tomorrow I'll be back with one of my circulated classic silver set examples - for now I'll add this pocket piece XF/AU 1991-D USO dollar: Enjoy

The 1927 Vermont half is the highest relief design of any classic silver half dollar - perhaps even amongst the modern half series although I do not know that for sure. I'm hopeful that one of our contributors will show their MS example ... as noted several times already I'm limiting my participation to examples from my honestly circulated set. The catamount shown on the reverse of the coin is one of my favorite images in the classic silver set. This coin is surprising challenging to find in circulated state - of all the 'pre-depression' era silver examples this is one of the more difficult to obtain. Here is mine: 1927 Vermont Sesquicentennial Half Dollar - PCGS G06 Enjoy
