Ive read peoples ideas on what it takes for a silver dollar that is toned to be considered naturally or artificially toned.
I think I found a happy medium
These all started the same a month ago no artificial methods were used

Beleive it or not the black coin is the result of an afternoon in the pocket of my swimming trunks, followed by leaving it in my work pants pocket for a month
I forgot to take a picture of this coin before I carried it around all month but I will make another next trip up,
Went for a dip at the Liard River Hot Springs.

Im up there several times a year and I got the idea on a previous trip after my wife went in the spring wearing a new silver ring we had bought a few days before in Jade City.

The multi-colored one is from last weekend.
Same idea, put a coin in my swimming trunks and went for a dip

But this time in Lussier Hot Springs

I travel the nearly the entire Provence of B.C. every month for work and I enjoy spending my free time searching out these beautiful and amazing places.
The colorful coins are just an added bonus

Very interesting!
Wonder how I can duplicate this at home.
I'm not allowed to go to hot springs any more as my wife is convinced it's like taking a bath with with a bunch of diseased people at temperatures that are too low to kill any pathogens .
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Do the hot springs out there have a lot of sulfur in the water, like in the States and other places around the globe? Sulphur almost immediately starts oxidizing silver and other metals. Wrapping coins in damp old-style brown/tan paper towels has long been a favorite of folks who like toned silver.

When I lived in northern BC there were a few hot springs we would go to and they were all somewhat high in sulphur content

Yep, sulpher smells like eggs, sometimes rotten eggs... and it rapidly oxidizes silver(and other metals).
