For anyone entering the Canadian large cent collecting there are many varieties to look for in Queen Victoria coins from 1859 - 1901 with estimated over 500 varieties to look for in 1859 alone, plus other years like this year 1881.
Lots has been studied and recorded in these years and here's a few that I have but I am still looking for some in better grades than I have now in my collection, but that is the real treasure in coin collecting the hunting for them and finding them.

I'm hoping others will chime in on this year with there knowledge and picture's of there finds.
But I'll start off with the hardest 1881 to try and find plus a couple others I found very interesting.

1st picture SSN one of the hardest Queen Victoria coins to find

1881 Reverse die clash

The next two coins are the Obverse double die (around the clock) and the Heavy punch doubling

What a nice group of coins papeldog!! 1881's are a great year to collect for varieties.

That first one (SSN)is a dream coin for a bunch of us.
I'm still looking.

Your "around the clock" is not the same one listed in the back of Charlton 2011, but I like that one better. The die crack through the DA of CANADA is much lower on the one listed in Charlton.

Your correct Phil310 I'm missing that one in a good grade I think there are a few around the clock double die obverse. This one is different than the one in the 2011 book like mentioned there are several varieties for this year and to many to all go in the book. Still another nice one to watch for as well as the others listed like the reverse die clash there is another one as well with the oblong beads but I'm still looking for it many more varieties in this year its a good year to spend time in.

I got another Punch doubling die as well here's a pic

Here is a late state of your "Round the Clock" die. Mine is not in very good condition, but I like the Cud that forms above the NA.

I recognize those prongs holding the 1881H SSN, what grade did PCGS give it?

Here's one more that's neat, with a deformed D of DEI and re-punched N's.

Oh, you guys with both photographic and computer skills ... I have neither, but I guess owning a camera would help. The '81's have long one been right up the with the '59's & 82's for variety hunting. I used to pick up every odd one I could find 20 years ago and long before we put anything in Charlton's about oddities. For those of you around from the beginning of the CCRS days (also 20 years ago), we used to fill pages and pages of posts about the '81's, adding individual counts from everyone's hoards to get estimated populations for them all.

I'm surprised that no one put up the 2 types of clashes for GR-91 varieties. Here's a couple of old QX5 shots:

1881-Large-Cent-Varieties
1881-Large-Cent-Varieties

There really aren't 2 "types" of clashes .. it's just that the die got clashed a 2nd time, over the first, so you have 2 iterations of the same malady .. one with round clashed beads and one with football shaped bead clashes

Thanks for all the posts and input on the 1881 that you have.

Yes Okie thanks for posting those I only have the regular one type 1 I'm still on the hunt for the type 2 football type

Phil310 that is an unusual D in DEI I never ever paid much attention to that D but it does fit in with the rest of the varieties I'll have to find a nice high grade.

Edited Note: I looked at all my 1881's Phil310 I couldn't find that D on any of mine.

Talking about that D in DEI no one has mentioned the Micro D here's a picture of one I have
