I'm glad that there are a lot of jefferson roll searchers here. When I get my collection a little more organized I'm going to post a "want list" in the "buying" forum. This list will probably contain a lot of Jefferson nickles because I am no where near having as much luck as everyone else searching nickles. Even though I only searched one box's worth of nickles.....I found only six nickles before 1960, no silvers, and am still missing nic's that should be easy to find like the 82 P and the Keelboat P. Hopefully when I post you guys can take a look at my list and keep an eye open. I'll buy at a premium for common dates, no biggie to me.

Got myself a box today. I'm off from work Monday and Tuesday so its a long weekend for me. I'll have plenty of time to go through it. Will post my results when I'm done.

Do you suppose it's a good idea to keep any problem-free 82 & 83 issues? (Since circulated rolls of the same dates for quarters sell for a premium.)

I don't see why not... 82 and 83 are good years for coins that are in better shape. I know in the box that I just went through I only found 1 82P and 1 83P. It was probably just an anomaly but I think it's strange that I found more 43S than I did of either of them.
Also Elimist if you want I have a partial set that you're welcome to have it's got 39P, 40PD, 41PDS, 42PD, 46PDS, 47PDS, 48PDS, 49PDS, 51PD, 52PDS, 53PDS, 54PD, 55D, 56PD, 57PD, 58PD, 59PD, 60PD, 61PD That's $2.15 face... you can have it at that + shipping if you want.

went through box #2 today, and it turned out pretty nice...here was my take:
- about 15+ holes filled (39D, the rest were 40's and 50's) - 1x 45P, 3x 43S (one of which I think is BU/MS, almost Full Steps! that totally surprised me...beautiful white with nice toning around the rim...I'll post a pic later) - date-less buffalo - nickel from costa rica - a nickel-sized coin from somewhere in the middle-east (i think...it looks like arabic, not sure)

Elimist, you can go through what's left of my box. There should be enough Keelboat-Ps in there, lol. There must've been abouth 30 of 'em in there.

Just went through another box of nickels found 17 pre 60's. 1 of them was an EF 40S... Don't know how that ended up in there. I thought it would be fun to document the whole thing, so I made a post about it with images on my personal site. It's a bunch easier for me to post images there than it is here. Otherwise I would have just put it here.

Remarkable. You got much better grades than would normally be expected.

I think I want to try this. Do the banks give you a hard time when you ask for $100 in nickels? Or is this something banks see all the time?

I went through the Commercial Lane at Wachovia, and asked for a box of nickels. The teller had my ID and asked me for my account number, then she asked if they were for me or for a business. I told her they were for me and she didn't put up a hassle for them.

xdarnokx - I usually go through the Merchant's line and ask for a box. They never give me any hassle. Sometimes they will give you a hassle when you dump, but once you find a good dump bank, you're set. =)
Good luck and happy hunting!

i have gone through at least 35 boxes of nickels since the start of my roll hunt and am left with 6 holes left, 38s,38d,39d,43d,44d,and of course the accursed 1950d. Along the way ive also found over a dozen buffalos, major die breaks, misaligned dies, and clipped planchets. The most interesting things ive seen are a 1883 with cents that grades at least ef and a 1950 proof. I used to dump all of my coins at one bank until that bank told me that I couldnt dump halves there anymore since I was dumping them their once a week. I then decieded to get even with them by saving up 20,000 nickels and dumping them in the machine instead of the halves. I ended up getting banned from dumping anything over $300 there but at least I got even with the bank since it took over 30 minutes to count all the coins. I filled 11 coinbags and jammed the machine 3 times, and caused a massive line. Needless to say I had my revenge.

Sweet! Nice revenge story...I've got a bank that I need to take out my revenge on too...one of these days...lol. Do you have any pics of that die break? I think the 43S that I found in BU/MS condition has a die break right through Jefferson's nose...I'll try to post a pic either tomorrow or the day after...I've gotta finish up my finals first...lol
