Being bored out of my skull and having some down time at work I decided to run into town and grab a box of nickels. The town was little bitty with just one bank, and they charged me 8 cents per roll for the box!
Anyway about half way through the box I was begining to get upset as it was starting to look like I was going to get skunked. But then a nasty dirty ugly 44P peered up at me! That started a turn around of sorts.
Ended up finding a total of 7 pre 50 coins.
The absolute highlight happened on the very last roll. Even after having found the silver I was still a little upset with the box as a whole. It just "felt weak". That all changed though. An EF-40 39S. I can't tell you how many boxes I've gone through and haven't found one of those. I'm still a little giddy. (It might be closer to a VF-30... but not in my mind)

Hello all. This is my very first post. I'm in college and have collected coins most of my life, although it has grown into an everyday thing in the past year or so. I've just started buying rolls from my local bank, just nickels so far, and out of the 15 or so rolls, my best finds have been a 1940 Fine and a 1936 Buffalo. I also found a 1923 Buffalo at work today in the cash register. (By today I mean 7/19, since it is now after midnight) Anyways, I hope to learn lots more and have some fun sharing my coin collecting experiences.

Thanks. I'm thinking about trying a few half dollar rolls tomorrow, I've heard some good stories about that.

I picked up my first $10 in nickels today to get a folder started. Found a dateless buffalo, other than that, nothing special or older than '62. I'll probably pick up some more tomorrow.

That buffalo is a good find! I've searched through about 10 boxes and have only found 2.

I've also just searched my first 3 rolls of half dollars, and found a 1974D Double-Die Obv. This is my first "error coin" and I love it.

Quote: Do coin dealers buy common date early jeffersons for more than face value? Yeah, actually you should be able to get at least $3.00 per roll for pre-1959 Jeffersons, and some dealers will pay a premium for certain later dates such as 1966, 1971, and 1976 also. I would save all of those, as well as any nice AU/UNC better dates, especially 1982-P.

Managed to get off the work location for a couple hours today. We're drilling near Shelbyville Texas. Anyway I went into town today, stopped by one of the local banks and picked up a box.
One of the neat things about the job is that I can pick up boxes from all sorts of small towns. In general I tend to have better results.
I couldn't believe that through more than 20 rolls I hadn't found 1 keeper. That nasty thought that I was going to be skunked was starting to sneak into my head.
The second half of the box didn't let me down though... Here are the results 1939P x1 1940P x1 1940S x1 1941P x1 1946P X1 1947D x2 1947S x1 1949D x1 1951P x1 1952S x1 1953P x1 1956P x1 1957P x1 1958D x4 1959D x3
And the Highlights 1945S x1 1936P x1 (Buffalo)
Wish the first half was like the second half...
