I wanted to share this interesting bit of history and is the best forum I could find. This is a receipt for a $5 donation to Woodrow Wilson's Presidential campaign ... dated September 30th 1912.
S. W. Wilson was my great grand father.

I have no idea why the image optimizer rotated the image. I fixed the rotation and then when uploaded ... it was rotated again.

Well, let's see if we can "fix" it

Thats an extremely interesting piece you have there, a search on heritage shows no examples having been sold there. As such I can only speculate as to its value, but I'm guessing its worth at least several hundred dollars, the sentimental value of course is immeasurable. Sometimes, political items like these go into the thousands of dollars if they are unique or extremely rare. I have seen political related receipts certified by PMG and PCGS before (convention tickets, ect). An awesome piece of family history, thanks for showing us!

That's interesting. I've never consider selling it.

We have lots of very old family items. My father has what he thought was a Texas Rangers badge. When I contacted the Texas Rangers about this... I got the standard response... which is there are lots of fakes. I showed them the image and I included the date the family member served and it turns out that it pre-dates the Texas Rangers. Houston County Texas census shows the family members lived in the county at the time. Anyway, I understand they get lots of inquiries like this... but this item is probably more rare than a real Texas Ranger's Badge. I'll see if I can post it later tonight in the medals and tokens forum.

thanks
john

That is a very interesting item. My first thought was you could build an entire collection of coin currency and exonumia from that era around that one piece.

There are definitely collectors of this kind of political material out there! Various parties and organizations regularly thanked donors with certificates like the one above. Here's another (unissued) for donors to the Harding Memorial. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harding_Tomb
