Talk about "Good News/Bad News". I took a chance and bought a bag of several thousand wheat cents that had, and I quote: "Been found in an attic and unsearched by me".The seller had only good reviews so, expecting the worst, I thought what the heck.

When I received them, they certainly looked as described. Opening the bag it was clear they were covered with a fine, sticky kind of dust.

The good news: I am certain they haven't been searched in a long time.

The bad news: 98% of them are 1940P-1942P. There are about 30 or so Steel cents, some "D"mintmarks, 3 teens, 1 1930's and 1 "S". Mixed in were about 150 or so 1944-1956.

As it became apparent what I had, I thought, well it could be worse.

Turns out, it could also be better... as we all know there are some nice varieties in those years.

I first found a 1942-D 1MM-002 RPM followed by a 1942P 1DO-003. Then I found a 1941P 1DO-002 and a 1941P 1DO-001 (both of which I have had the good fortune to find in the past).

After finding a couple of Incomplete (clipped) Planchets I found this guy.

It is the first one of these that I have found so I thought I could share it with you. I believe it is a 1942P 1DO-005. It is very cool looking in-hand and I hope that conveys through my pictures. I would appreciate confirmation or opinions on this.

Thank you, very much, for your time.

That's a very nice example of 1DO-005. Usually the doubling on the 1 in the date is very hard to see but yours is crisp and overall coin looks great. Always something in those bags even with a rather paltry set of dates!
