$5 apiece isn't bad. The shop has to resell them and make some money. They'll probably only end up making a dollar or so apiece on them.
Most circed Walkers and Franklins aren't worth much more than melt. Unless he was knowingly buying key dates for melt, it's not that bad.

I asked for a roll of halves when I went to the bank yesterday. He didn't have a roll but he had 14.50 in his tray. I guess I couldn't consider that a waste of time.

I don't think it's a waste of time but then again, it's all a numbers game. The more you search, the more likely you will find something of value. I'd like to think I do fairly well at roll searching but you have to know what to look for.

Quote: Is Facebook a waste of time? I would have to say yes to that one as I actually deleted mine recently. As to the OP, well, I've found a lot of good stuff the past couple of years. Two complete sets of Jeffersons for starters, lots of silver War Nickels, Dimes, and Halves, and even some Indian cents and V nickels. I've found many different hoards of coins as well including rolls of War Nickels, four rolls of Buffalo nickels, a hoard of semi-key Jefferson nickels, rolls of wheat cents... And nice individual coins such as an AU 1928-S Buffalo nickel, a 1883 No Cents V nickel, a 1970-S small date cent, a couple of 1998 Wide AM cents, 1909 VDB, 1932-D, and 1933 Lincolns... and just yesterday, this roll of Halves which contained 19 silver ones including 14 90%-ers... Also, you would be surprised, but there is actually a market out there for coins you wouldn't think are collectible. The harder to find 1960-1971 dated Jeffersons actually do bring a good premium today when I put them up on ebay... not to mention a roll of 2009-D nickles will bring me around $20 now.

I don't think I've found a single 2009 nickel yet. Goes to show how low the mintage was I guess. That's was a very inspiring post John77!

Best time I had as a collector, 2009-2014. Thousands of silver. I do miss it at times.

Good to know. I'll sell mine for $19 , jk. Not sure how many I have but I know not enough for a roll of same mint And even at $20+shipping, my rolls of 2009-Ds rarely even last a week on ebay. I keep all of the AU-55 or better examples and sell the lower graded ones. In other words, I sell about half of the ones I find and keep the other half. The two mints combined only made 86.64 million nickels for circulation in 2009. In a typical year, the mints produce about 1.5 BILLION nickels. Oftentimes, they are like looking for needles in haystacks. 2009-P nickels are particularly hard to find for almost everyone who doesn't live in Puerto Rico from what I've seen. South Floridians seem to have had the best luck from what I've seen in my searches for release points. I happen to live in a region of the country (southern California) where 2009-D nickels were released in quantity. I don't think my local community got many of them based on my studies of customer wrapped rolls of coins containing BU examples of coins dated 2007-2012 or so (I rarely ever find any BU 2009-Ds amongst them), but cities around me north and south did in quantity so that's how I am able to find them.

It depends all on you. We do many things that waste time. Its just how you prefer to waste/spend/pass/kill/enjoy your time.
But I know one thing. If you hoard copper you are wasting your time. Haha.

Not counting CCF, of course. Of course! And, unlike other forms of social media, trolls aren't allowed to run rampant on here.
