Was wondering what the consensus is on this coins grade. Thank you!

Weakly struck (like all of them). The sail looks to have rub if so AU 58 otherwise it is similar to mine a MS 64.

Technical grade 58. Eye Appeal 6/10.

Even though these are all poor for strike, this one is particularly light. Rub at high points although broken field luster is a better indicator of circulation, for this example.

When I first looked at I was getting a bad feeling about authenticity, but that's probably more because it isn't NGC or PCGS. If you haven't purchased this yet, be aware that a TPG example will probably cost the same as raw.

I'll echo what Muddler said about rub on the sails, and there might be a bit of rub on the drapery at Neptune's butt, so I'll say 58.

MS-63. Decent average strike for a Hudson. I always suggest holding out for "better" struck examples. They are out there and they are scarce. This is what I consider a better than average strike on a Hudson. I'm sure there are better strike coins out there though.

You have received some great input from well educated collectors ... so little for me to add other than my concurrence.

The 1935 Hudson half was a recent example in the ongoing 'complete commemorative set' thread ... there you can view other weakly struck MS examples.

Dubious authenticity, rubbed, cleaned ; the second two to conceal the first ... suspicious tool marks in legends - often seen like this decades ago before authentication services.

Superb photos by the way - very large and clear with differing lightings - extremely helpful ; I'd give your photography skills MS68.

freddo - Dubious authenticity? Are you saying this is counterfeit? That's quite a statement.

^ Means I'd need to see it in hand before I'd sign off on it ; if you've ever had that feeling of your antennae suddenly rising from your head ... this issue was a very common counterfeit "back in the day" and although the grading services have weeded many of them out I'd bet there are still some floating around - I hope I'm wrong about his coin but I'm just not sure ...
