And even if it was rolled onto the plate stock, it would have separated at the edge, popping off like a tiddly wink in the blanking process. Then in the production of coin, all that would remain after stamping pressure would be a slight divot. The metal moves to fill in those spaces on a planchet, even field, offset rims and details.

I think he is saying it is an unusual lamination that he has not seen before. It is the real deal. Note under the peeled area, you can see the waves of the metal.

I'm late to the game here. Don't know or really care what it is at this point but when I saw your "I bent it up" picture, it punched me in the gut!! Ouch!! I wish you had not done that. It reminded me of this:

Did you bend it back? If you did, it probably fell off. If not, it's getting ready to.

It's still good and in tact. In a 2x2
never fell off nor is it close I didn't bend it that far just far enough to show people what I was talking about.

Is the weight normal or slightly heavier?

If it were heavier, then I would have thought a struck through debris. But being that it's under, then considering it a lamination issue. Leave it attached in that position. That shows it better that way in a 2x2. Nice find.

Thank you for updating this thread with newer pictures! It's the real deal, and it's 2x2 worthy.
