A few years back I started keeping all of the alternative 50ps and £2 coins came across. I now have a fairly large amount of them (700 50ps and 300 £2s). I'm sort of wondering is there a value list so I know which are worth keeping and which I may as well take to the bank. Also is there a trading section as theres a few I'd like but dont have. If so: For 50 pence - ones folks are typically looking for Kew Gardens minted in 2009 is one that is worth the most 2011 Olympic 50 pence ones too early to tell about 2017 Newton and 2016 Jemima Puddle-Duck £2 the key ones are: 2002 Commonwealth Games - one for each country with Northern Ireland being the more expensive one 2008 1908 Olympic Games 2008 Olympic Games Handover 2011 King James Bible 2011 Mary Rose 2012 Olympic Games Handover 2013 London Underground x2 designs 2015 Magna Carta - 5th Portrait 2015 FWW Navy - 5th Portrait 2015 Britannia - 5th Portrait Have you made a list of what you have? CoinCrazy91 New Member United Kingdom 13 Posts	Posted 04/23/2018 01:36 am Hey Wutwai If it's extremely dirty then you have to clean it very carefully. Common sense applies. But in the world of coin collectors, most detest people who clean coins, and it's because it actually hurts the value, but that's for much older coins I believe. People like that old look, that weathered look you could say. An example would be, you don't bring in an antique gun to get fully cleaned and it looks new, and the "antique look" is gone. But You're probably best waiting for more of a pro coin collector to answer your question because I don't know how it would work with the newerish coins. Just don't use anything rough which could scratch the surface, it needs to be done really carefully with care. Cheers Report this Post to the Staff
CoinCrazy91 New Member United Kingdom 13 Posts	Posted 04/23/2018 01:42 am Add to the last comment I made: You should take out the ones which are worth a nice amount and put them into a protected cover made for coins. Also, you shouldn't discard Britannia's, because some of those coins have dates on them which were not scheduled for mintage on that particular year, meaning someone took it out an annual set and spent it. Those are nice finds too. You should go to "Absolute Coins" on YouTube, the gentleman is very knowledgeable about the type of coins you have collected, he goes into error coins for 50ps, which ones are the rarest etc, and he also does 2-pound coins as well. PaddyB Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 945 Posts	Posted 04/23/2018 03:24 am With the modern coins, if they are cruddy use a little warm water and soap with a soft sponge. Nothing abrasive or strong chemical. If they have glue on them, which happens when people use sticky tape to hold them in place, some surgical spirit or acetone works well. If a mark wont shift with either of these - leave it there. Report this Post to the Staff
