otto Pillar of the Community United States 1326 Posts	Posted 04/23/2018 1:12 pm The numeral "4" in the date. It looks like a re-punch or some kind or an overdate. There is definitely such a thing as an 1848/6 variety of this coin, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to look. I've seen sellers who claim to have such a coin in raw form, but with no clear support of claims. Report this Post to the Staff

That said, it's not clear to me what numeral it might've been that it was stamped over. But you wouldn't think this is a solitary example, others like it ought to be out there.
