Captain Canuck predated my immigration to Canada so I have no context or nostalgia. All I see is another cartoon character on a silver slab that is posing as a coin.
Before everyone gets all crazy and "Falcon Lake's" this item, just remember... Anything marketed as a collectible... Isn't a collectible. There is a reason the 1947 & 1948 Canadian Silver Dollars carry a premium and it isn't because it has a cartoon character in full colour on rectangular tableau, or that it was marketed as collectible.
Buy this item because it appeals to you, not for profit... speculators get rich and poor in very quick cycles. Just remember the Avro Lancaster from the '90s, after a period of scarcity and price frenzy, it is now selling at near melt value and below issue price.
I predict this will also occur to the 2011 Ladybird/Tulip and this year's Falcon Lake though it may take 10 years. And yes, that is the inevitable price for Captain Canuck.
All of the $100 gold coins from 1976 on issued are selling at melt value if 10 years old... that seems to be the decline period. The only difference with gold is that the issue price multiple over melt is significantly less than the silver multiple. While more expensive, it has a better value proposition (if only losing 40% of your investment is a good proposition vs. 80%).

Not disputing your premise at all vonigohcr or wading into the tired argument over NCLT and intrinsic value, but please send me a PM on where to find the 1990 Lancaster for near melt or even below the $55.50 issue price. I've been looking for that one for quite some time and haven't seen it less than $85 or roughly 4-5 times melt. TIA.

I would agree with the "bottom line" conclusion. And I also think that 1948 SD more valuable than Captain Canuck or Ladybug coin. But they are all collectible, till there is a demand. Ask random person in the Canada Post, the one that will stand an look at the coins there - the person will tell you, that Canada Dollar coin first appeared in the 1987, and if you saw somewhere the 1948-dated Dollar - in best case this is nice "Fantasy coin"

@CC-Ottawa - PM Sent Apologies for the "tired argument" but I recently been evolving my collection... moving from NCLT and back to where I began with circulated or business strike coins. It has been an eye opener and a significantly humbling experience to recognize the erosion in value that I have to accept. Sort of like selling all your stocks in 2008 and recognizing that retirement is not quite as close as you thought. (don't misunderstand... coins are not my retirement plan but they are my hobby and new purchases are in part funded by sales of less loved items) One of the mandates for this forum is to help folks with experience and while I don't want to come across as a downer, I think that folks need to keep their eyes open. You are right... it is a tired argument... but when I see folks ready to shell out $650 for Falcon Lake or seeing Captain Canuck begin the climb to $200 and beyond, every fibre in my body screams "NOOOOOO". I really like a number of the RCM issues, of the recent issues, I really love the 10oz Angel coin (April Release) and I have a genuine respect for Andy Everson's work so the MC Exclusive Mask (May Release) is compelling but I am resisting both for the reasons above. But to prove my hypocrisy/weakness my most recent purchase: the Armistice Silver Dollar in the May Release. Gotta keep the SD set rolling. My most recent non-NCLT: Canada 1914 $10 MS-63. 'Nuff said... Time to get off the NCLT price bashing horse.

So, that makes two knocks in a row. I still don't see it on the website though. When does it come out of the Master's Club tiers?

Masters Club notice went out on the 24th. It is usually a 5 day preview period so I expect Sunday or Monday for general release to the website.
It is only the Artist Signed COA version that is sold out, the non-signed version is still available for order.
