Everyone, How are you? I'm good and I got this from Vcoins a very nice, awesome silver Antoninianus'2 Denari' of Trajan Decius. More about the coin: 4.66g

Radiate bust of Trajan Decius right "IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG"

Trajan Decius holding a scepter and riding a horse left. "ADVENTVS AVG" Adventus Augusti - Arrival of the emperor.

RSC IV 4

More on him: Trajan Decius
Augustus 249-251 AD.
Decius was a leading commander in the employ of the emperor Philip I. When several revolts broke out in different quarters of the empire Decius was selected to push back the Goths. Dutifully, he went on his way and did so effective a job of handling the invaders that the soldiers hailed him as their emperor on the spot. Philip was none too amused at this and gathered his army to meet the new usurper. A major battle was fought at their meeting point in Verona ending with Philip's defeat.
On arrival to Rome he was well received by the people and the Senate. However, he hardly earned any brownie points when he became a rather energetic persecutor of Christians. Before long he was engaged in another bout of incursions from the Goths. This time luck was not on his side and a tactical error on his part led to the early death of his son and co-Augustus Herennius Etruscus who was Herennius died at his father's side, struck by an arrow. Trying to marshal the spirits of his men he is recorded as brushing off the loss with "The death of one soldier but hardly bothers me". Despite this bit of battlefield hubris his own death was to come moments later. Speculation of contemporary biographers look suspiciously on Trebonianus Gallus, who became emperor immediately afterwards.

Lovely portrait on that one!

Decius was one of my favorite figures for the Crisis, since more than his predecessor or successors, he seemed to be genuinely concerned for the welfare of the state - an honest politician! Expanding on the point above, he held the view that Rome's rotten luck of the past two decades had come about because the people were no longer pious to the gods. His persecutions were not specifically aimed at Christians, but rather anyone who did not participate in the state religion or official cults. Roman religion believed the humans and gods shared a strictly "quid pro quo" relationship - more sacrifice meant more good fortune; thus all citizens of the vast empire were required (on pain of torture or death) to regularly sacrifice to the health of the state and the emperor. In my view, his death marked the point of no return for the Crisis, as Shapur realized the Goths were too big of a threat for Rome to effectively fight a war on two fronts, so he broke the treaty he made with Philip and began to ransack the East.
