Thanks Hondo Boguss for identifying those coins. I had no idea of what they were or from. Believe it or not, a few rolls later there was another one! I hope no one is "selling" coins this way. I certainly wouldn't have paid $2 each for them by choice. Anyway, they will go into the odds and sods collection. I also found these two coins I the same noodle. I suspect they are both "greasers" but could be PMD? They will also join the other three in my odds and sods collection.

SallyG, it's probably just PMD but the one on the right looks strange. Could it be a Dryer Coin? Check the diameter and thickness to see.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Thank you for your replies. I have weighed both coins and they are 6.6g ( on my cheap scales). They both look the same thickness as normal (I don't have a micrometer) and neither exhibit the same sort of damage as those shown in that thread about Dryer Coins (thanks for sharing - that was interesting and informative). The attached picture is the coins flipped over to show the reverse sides. Some wear and tear from circulation but nothing like what is on the obverse. Whatever they are they are going into the odds and sods collection. I like them.

A family member gave me a 2024 50c and $1 this week. Other than that not much lately.

Found this 20c today - 1999 with a "knuckle" on a claw and a bit of an extra rim on the obverse. A bit battered from its time in circulation but another addition to my ever expanding odds and sods collection. What is that extra 'rim' called? What causes it? I find lots of coins that have that feature.

Thank you Errers and Varietys for that info. Very interesting. I have found a few other coins with the same feature - particularly Australian $2 coins. Too common to be valuable but still interesting. The hunt continues. Happy hunting everyone.

Noodled through a few coins this week and had a pretty good result with the $2 coins. Very pleased to find a 2014 $2 'green dove' in very good condition. Must have 'escaped ' from someone's collection. Still finding plenty of 2018 Lest We Forget coins but very few Firefighter or Vegemite coins. I haven't heard of any purple poppy war animals coins found in circulation either. Anyway, the hunt continues. Happy hunting everyone.

Sally, when are you going to start a thread to show us every coin in your "odds and sods collection"? I'm very interested to see what is in there...

Great finds, Sally! It looks as if the number of commemorative coins in Australia has mushroomed since my last visit there in 2019, when I was delighted to get a 2019 Mob of Roos $1 with the little letter 'A' from a Bureau de Change in Sydney when I changed some sterling.
