Go straight to the source - pm CCF member BadThad. He invented Verdi-care and would probably be able to give you the best advice as to what Verdi-Care would do. He could also tell if a post treatment or whole coin treatment would be best.

If you're going to crack the coin, you might as well conserve the entire thing. The small patch behind the ear looks very light and should be easily removed. There also appears to be a whitish, light carbonate-type verdigris all over the coin. VC will instantly remove that.

I would soak it for 4 hours, flip and let the other side soak for 4 hours. Rinse with some fresh VC and let it dry for a few weeks. Take some before/after pictures out of the slab so we can gauge the results! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks BadThad!! I had a gut reaction that this coin needs conservation. I will post some before and afters when it is all done

Did a 4 hour soak each side. I can note Verdicare had no adverse effects or reaction on the coin

I took pictures from multiple angles and positions to try to capture how it is in hand. It has nice luster in hand.

Here are the before pictures

If I had any doubts or reservations about Verdi Care they are gone now. Nice job Steelers!
