.....If the late George Carlin could only observe our humor here sometimes.......bet he'd appreciate some of it !... I wonder what his opinions (observations) would be on the coin collecting hobby ?

I never even bother to see what HSN is offering because all they ever sell is modern coins which the mint stamps out like chiclets! -PP

As to George Carlin, one of my favorites, I'd have to say that it all relates back to our stuff. Why do we have a house? So we have a place for our stuff...He will be missed

While in college my proffresor played one of Carlin's dvd's during our English class. George will be missed but will live on. Forums such as this helps expose HSN and their unlawful practices. HSN are thieves!

I just find it funny how the guys on the Coin Vault love to emphasize that a coin is a "first strike." Also, back in 1999 I remember when they were offering 5 BU Delaware quarters for $120. They claimed that the State Quarters will be an incredibly small run and will never be seen in circulation. In fact, I think that they claimed that the 5 coins would only appreciate in value.

You know......just pondering here......but just imagine the amount of stockpiles of coins that they have !......And the way business always seems to be moving for them......and the amount of stuff they buy for future sales....... I bet their "warehouse" contains an eye popping massive bulk of crap !!

Can't we get together and start a petition or something ?......class action lawsuit ? They come just short of "bald face lying" sometimes.....and it scores the sale !.....leading people on about the incredible value of their products, compared to the value on the market now, and the eventual thousands of $$$$$ that it'll be worth someday....... gold and platinum "plated/dipped" coins where no trace of "parts per billion" can be found AT ALL !! Ignorant people have a right to buy products at ridiculous prices, but they've gone LIGHT YEARS BEYOND THIS NOW !!

Quote: ...leading people on about the incredible value of their products, compared to the value on the market now Small players compared to Wall St. who packaged toxic investments, promptly rated them AAA, and pimped them to investors. They're the master deceivers, and the HSN guys are lowly apprentices. I'm sooo off-topic, lol. Wall St. is safe and sound...nothing to worry about, move along.

After reading what Kurt has pointed out, Eaglefoot leaves the room and begins immediately to withdraw his stock investments in a frantic worry, so as not to participate in this horror ! .... Eaglefoot then realizes that he's a "Capitalist" and sometimes that means others get hurt, stepped on, or killed, so that we can make some money, and he leaves the "stock" right where it is.....

So is the same to be said about PCGS's use of the term "first strike" on their certifications? eaglefoot wrote; Quote: Yeah the term "First Strike" is just a marketing ploy obviously ...... Since the mint has stated that there is no way to tell as to when a certain coin is struck, and PCGS uses this to mean coins certified within the first thirty days of issue, is this also just a marketing ploy?

"...and PCGS uses this to mean coins certified within the first thirty days of issue, is this also just a marketing ploy?" Lemme guess. If "First Strike" cannot be evident from details on the actual coin, what does it matter?

From what I understand, throughout the year, the Mint changes to a new planchet for every and any particular denomination. They only press so many coins with each one, and then replace it. So yeah, that "First Strike" claim is only evident in the "detailed quality" of the first so many coins minted with that particular planchet. The more minted with that particular one......the less quality detail. It's exactly the same concept with the "DCam" proof coins right ?....the first so many will give that really high quality........then the regular beautiful proof coins will follow until that planchet is replaced to begin minting more and more until, throughout the year, the mintage limit has been reached. So, I guess it's the "Get yours now" claims that pronounce "First Strike" as if you can only get these early and soon in the year and that's it. And besides.......THIS NUMBER IS UNKNOWABLE !.....one could only guess at how many produced off of each planchet were the "First Strike" quality. HSN has done "First Strike" Sacagawea's, ASE's, Quarters, Commemoratives, and God knows what else.......probably everything !...and theirs are certainly "slabbed & certified First Strike".......so ........dunno......i guess if people want to "buy" that....it's fine. Like Kurt said.....just judge the "actual coin" and you'll be okay I think ! Putting "First Strike" on a slab isn't "inaccurate" so much as it's "misleading" I suppose...... Am I explaining this correctly ?.......
