I've been selling on ebay for a while and have just started getting into selling coins and tokens within the last year. I've always had a "No returns accepted" policy from the beginning, but I've heard that there are buyers who will not bid/buy any listings that do not accept returns, period.

But I also have International shipping enabled for USPS Delivery Confirmation countries. I've never had any problems shipping internationally so far, and I'm not sure if accepting returns may affect that.

I mainly sell coins/tokens in groups, and I try to make my pictures as clear and focused as possible. If I enabled returns, would any issues arise? What's your experience with having returns enabled?

Thank you.

The horror stories of rotten buyers abound, which is why I seldom offer returns, especially on groups of coins. Those "lots" are just hard to keep track of, no matter how well you photo document them all, some guy will short suit a return, or swap out his nasties on the return. Only once has it happened and that was enough to sour me. ebay's and PayPal's guarantees should be enough for a buyer, they are with my purchases, so why not as a seller? I describe my products fully, what exactly is presented, give them my best deal(price) no make offers enabled. What you see and read as described is what you get...have a lot of extra compliments on feedback other than platitudes!

Ah thank you, this was my main concern. I was wondering if bad buyers switching out coins in lots then sending them back was a myth or not, guess it's not a myth.

So it sounds like offering returns on lots is a bad idea, how about individual coins/tokens? Would that cause any issues to arise?

Keep the NO RETURNS ACCEPTED in there. It is your best protection against con artists.

In the beginning, I accepted returns, but found this was more trouble than it was worth. Con artists try to abuse it as happened to me with one person who claimed the coins I sent him were "junk" and "culls," even though they were the exact problem-free average circulated coins in my photos. He sent me abusive emails (to which I didn't respond). I reported him to ebay, who told me over the phone that they were ruling in my favor, but since it was a small amount they were also going to give him a refund. The kicker is the buyer was able to leave me negative feedback. I spent about three months fighting it, to no avail. It took a full year for that to drop off my profile.

When you put NO RETURNS ACCEPTED, the con artists who try and substitute items and lie will be discouraged from buying from you. I have had no problems since, and my sales have not been adversely affected.

As for international selling, I honestly would discourage it (even to Canada) at this point. There's just too much that can go wrong.

As a buyer, I actually now prefer to buy from someone who doesn't accept returns as it tells me that they likely have had a bad experience with a rogue buyer and can relate to me.

The actual con artists can con you whether or not you accept returns, those you just have to fight through ebay or whatever either way.

As far as returns themselves most people won't return something but there are more buyers that have been since ebay has made it so easy. That said the shortest period with the buyer paying return shipping generally keeps it to honest returns.

A lot depends on what you're selling. People selling just cheap items it doesn't really matter, when you start selling things of value a lot of people will stay away and I believe the search functions and where your listing is in the field is adversely impacted by no returns

- I haven't been a seller for quite a while but when I did- I accepted returns on single items only (esp graded items - within limited time frames + buyer pays shipping).

However, with "lots" (multiple items) I would not accept returns (agree with crazy). If you describe your items well and put the onus on the buyer to beware ("what you see is what you get") you shouldn't have to take returns (& complicate matter for yourself). ebay prices are typically low as it is so no need to make it worse (by taking returns).

The only time you may wish to reverse this rule of thumb is when you're selling something a little more rare and with what you expect to be a higher bid (& then make conditions to which the buyer must adhere in order to return item).

That's my 2 cents worth...
