Interesting that Christina claimed to also be queen of Poland-Lithuania at the same time that Jan Casimir claimed to be King of Sweden in addition to Poland-Lithuania. Just a little Vasa family squabble inherited from their parents (her father, Gustavus Adolphus, was an adversry of Sigismund III of Poland, despite being first cousins). It's easy to forget that Sweden was one of the major powers in 17th century Europe. They colonized Delaware and Pennsylvania 50 years before William Penn founded the english-speaking colony, and even today you can visit Old Swedes' church in Philadelphia, and watch rowers practicing on the Christina river near Wilmington, Delaware.
