Sigismund III, 1616 1 1 1/2 grosz, Riga mint. Although the design is like the ubiquitous Bydgoszcz or Krakow dreipolker, this is a different and less common type(Kop. 8171), minted only in 1616-17 in Riga, and lacking the numeral 3 below the shield obv, which is present on the dreipolkers. Reverse legend GROS ARGEN CIVI RIG. Obverse the P in POLO looks more like the numeral 4. Numista lists it under Duchy of Livonia and calls the denomination 1 1/2 grosz; WCN calls it Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Riga, "grosz (poltorak)". I call it confusing.

We just had a day without a Sigismund portrait. Let's fix that problem . Poland 1615 3 kreuzer, Krakow mint. I don't have another Sigismund portrait until 1607.

Nice variety the last 12 hours (Barby, Halberstadt, Friesland). Interesting how the (English) shilling and this schelin are large silver coins, but the solidus/schilling/szelag in the Baltic area is a much smaller silver coin at the same point in time. Maybe this has been discussed before out here?
