As for the experimenting, I would try it on the 2017 10c and 5c since there not worth much.

Good stuff. Let us know in a year or so how it went..

sorry to be the sober second thoughts on this, but our memories are being boiled by the heat these days? I can easily count 2 other threads about the exact same thing, one where the coin was sent into 3rd party grading.

this is only toning.

Ace_ftw,

I think in all 3 (or more) threads, toning was to blame by most who posted. I don't think anyone is debating that.
The question is why and how these coins are turning goldish in colour so quickly? And consistently?
I've held several coins at Canada post locations with the same toning that are no where near old enough to have such a drastic change in colour under normal circumstances.

Another question is why does this type of toning not come off by dipping it in a silver cleaning solution?

. Normal is the key word. Abnormal conditions caused this, or more sets would show the same, but what were they? Any chemists out there have an opinion?

Just off the cuff, what about different types of lighting? Incandescent, fluorescent, LED, halogen, metal halides, neon, etc... or even a combo of 2 or more. . Something is going on to speed up the process.

Your right. If it doesn't come off, then can it be toning? Or has it become "staining"? Or do we need to invent a new dip? .
