So are you getting reflections from the lens?

Not that I can see. I was just trying to minimize any other reflective sources. But usually you see more in the photos than I do.

Very nice! This is with 90mm Angel Eyes ringlight, correct? What is the light's height above the coin?

Thanks! Yes, 90mm angle eye. I think that one was about 1.5" above the coin. 1.75" is my 45 degrees (I have that marked on my focusing rail), so I am at a bit of a lower angle.

Raw image had the contrast increased in Paint.net, circle cropped and placed into this image which was downsized by 4x to get an acceptable file size for this forum.

Look how far you've come! These photographs are fantastic!

It suddenly occurs to me, I haven't got a clue if I am prepared for mirror proofs yet with my current setup!

@jbuck. Just need to carve some more time out. Daughter's 6 year old b-day today, so a little busy...

Thanks! Great resources on this forum!

I am using the $400 setup. For these proofs I am using a 90mm COB LED ring light mounted on a manual focusing rail. Little contrast and brightness adjustments in paint.net.

This thread is a testament to SuperDave's insistence on ringlights giving the best results for high contrast proofs. Excellent work.

Now, I do have a tiny bit of constructive criticism...

First, a question or two...are you raising the ringlight as high as you can? What happens if it is raised even higher? Reason I ask is that the low angle lighting is causing more highlighting on the edges of the devices than I'd like to see. This is not a showstopper, and if you can't raise the light and still get the effect of the deep black mirrors, then no worries. But if you are able to bring the lights higher and still achieve the deep blacks and good contrast, then you can even-out the illumination on the devices.
