Did the '74 grade MS? I ask because of the lack of detail in the hair. Perhaps it resulted form a worn die or grease filling the details of the die. Just not sure ...
I am assuming you own both coins. I would recommend NEVER cracking MS classic US coins to put them in an album. You risk damaging the coin or getting a lower grade upon resubmission. Not to mention that you would have to eat the resubmission costs as well.
But if I had to choose, I'd go with the 1874 because it would most likely maintain its grade due to the color.
