@Electrum

Look at Moneypenney's post at the top of the page 2. You'll see all the coins.

Don't forget, guys, that the CC&C might have different policy from the RCM. This dealer, might really ship the wooden box with the first coin. They might also ship maroon cases with every coin,?including the first. While the mint will try to save and avoid situations, while the customer easily cancels the sub, cause basically got 'yummy items'

How can there be any in hand images when the Big Coins have not be even shipped? Or even before they are released to the general public on Sept. 4.

You guys fall for the same old gimmicks and then complain about it later. No complaining in 6 months that you spent too much or that the RCM bait and switched you!

Whether you're a fan of the "Big Coins" or not, the bottom line is that there clearly is a market for them.

- 2018 Reverse-Gold Plating set / Max. Mintage = 1,250 / Sold Out at RCM / Gross Sales = $4.987 million
- 2018 Rose-Gold Plating set / Max. Mintage = 1,500 / Sold Out at RCM / Gross Sales = $5.879 million
- 2017 Alex Colville Designs set / Max. Mintage = 2,150 / Sold Out at RCM / Gross Sales = $7.223 million
- 2016 Colourized set / Max. Mintage = 1,500 / Sold Out at RCM / Gross Sales = $4.680 million
- 2015 Gold-plated set / Max. Mintage = 1,500 / Sold Out at RCM / Gross Sales = $4.950 million

Total gross sales = $27.719 million CAD.

If you assume that the RCM sells 50% of each series directly to customers via its web site / phone ordering (and therefore gets the full value of the retail price) and sells the rest to dealers at 50% of the retail price, the math indicates that the RCM receives (overall) 75% of the total retail price. Applying that to the $27.719 million we get $20.789 million. Not bad for just five different coin series! (I've applied simple math here to illustrate my point - dealer pricing varies.)

Based on such a revenue stream, it's likely the RCM will continue to find ways to create new series going forward. How about a 2020 Big Coin series depicting the designs of 1945 to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII?

I'm glad I'm not a buyer of these series - I like to have complete sets and it would take way too much money to keep a Big Coin set of all series complete! To those who enjoy them and can afford them all - Congrats!

So much for a 2012 "Farewell to the Penny"... in the last couple years, the RCM has snuck in a few 1c issues... and in 2017 the Alex Coville 5oz issue, and now this! To easy for the RCM to make money from them...

Harsh, but I'm gonna agree. Any who buys NCLT as an investment is (well 98% of the time) going to be very disappointed.

And I'm not talking about the pysanka, or the cptn' canuck coins where people who bought early profited on the hype while the trend was hot (which even those are scarce occurrences). I'm talking about the people who spend $1000s on RCM nclt and expect that in a few decades will have gone up a few fold which, unfortunately isn't the case 99.95% of the time.

If you buy nclt because you like it, then that's great. I think the guys and gals who scope out new releases and wait afew months to a year to get said releases for sometimes as low as 20% of issue price have a smart idea.

I was taught early on (well relatively speaking) that unless you really like nclt and will get joy out of it regardless if it loses value or not, then you should steer clear of it. I myself do like some nclt, but would most likely never pay or expect to get anywhere close to issue price for many nclt .

Seems very few dealers have the single Loonie. Almost all are selling as a subscription. Wanted to get one from Gatewest but they only have the subscription and they want the full price of $3983 up front.

That gimongous rim on the 2019 Big Coin Loonie made me hesitate to purchase the coin when it was available from RCM as a single. Since there is only a digital render of it available, nobody can really know how it will actually look until it is minted. But I do think we can get an idea of how it may look if we take a look at the $1M gold coin from the RCMi 2007. It has a similar large rim around the coin, although the Loonie seems to have a bigger rim in proportion to its diameter.

Thanks for the link, quasarito. In the stock photo the Loonie most definitely has a bigger rim in proportion to its diameter .

Was going to purchase this coin, but I don't like the look of the wide rim.

@quasarito and @Looney4Numi

I totally agree. The rim is just to wide. That's why I passed as well.

@jimper, Thanks, I saw that one at West Edmonton Coins. I was looking for one with wooden case like Gatewest had last year.
