It is actually neither a Close AM or Far AM. It's centered between the A and E evenly, but close as the design of the Master hubs. This begins to change with introductions of new Master hubs in 1969 and again in 1982. It was then that two designs for reverses came into being, the major reverse change was the 1987/1988 change. In the 1998 to 2000 only in Philly was a reverse proof die accidently substituted for some business strikes. Mint errors like this are called "Transitional Errors" , the changing in use of different designs. The most interesting is the accidental use of a polished business strike die on the 1999S Proof.
The Close AM started on 1993, but a few coins were struck the the RDV-007 in 1992. But there is no way to find them before 1992 as the design hadn't been thought of yet. So forget looking for them until 1992 on Memorial cents. That would be like looking for a computer on a Model 'T' Ford. Use the time looking for them after 1992, for real searching.
I don't know how to thank you guys enough for sharing your wisdom. It's fun collecting and learning history at the same time. Again thank you all for the comprehensive and detailed replies.
