I visited somewhere today that is portrayed on an iconic British 50p coin issued in 2009:



I'd never been in the famous Pagoda before. It's only recently re-opened to the public after restoration:


Kew Gardens originated as the parkland surrounding the Royal Palace at Kew, to the south-west of London. King George II divided the park into two sections and gave half of it to his daughter-in-law, Princess Augusta, who started developing it as a Botanical Garden in 1759: the Pagoda was built two years later, as part of the craze for 'follies'.

The Gardens remained a Royal property until 1840 when Queen Victoria granted them to the Nation. The scarce 50p coin commemorates their 150th anniversary.
