commems CCF Master Historian of USA Commemoratives United States 12308 Posts	Posted 12/22/2020 08:18 am The reverse of the 1937 Battle of Antietam US commemorative half dollar depicts a place - what came to be known as the Burnside Bridge (after Major General Ambrose Burnside who commanded the IX Corps during the battle at the bridge). The bridge was the site of just one phase of the overall deadly Antietam/Sharpsburg battle that ultimately had nearly 23,000 casualties and left over 3,600 dead. Burnside Bridge today.
