I was not as fortunate as CollegeBarbers. I received my order today also, specifically a proof dollar and both half dollars. The proof half dollar is absolutely horrendous. It looks like someone at the Mint sneezed on the obverse and smeared snot along the left side. There's even a spot of green corrosion under the boy's nose, even though it can't be seen as well in the photograph. I've never returned anything to the U.S. Mint before, but this is definitely going back. My only question is: Do I have to send all three coins back, or just the damaged proof half?

You don't have to send all items in an order. The language the mint uses is a bit confusing, but I think they mean if you buy a multi-part item, for example the three coin set, then you have to return all coins within that multi-part item. You don't however have to return all items the total items of your order. At least that's how I understood their policy.

You should be able to return just the proof half since it wasn't part of a set. That one is just horrendous

I spoke with a Mint rep and they are sending me a postage paid label to return the damaged half dollar. Can you imagine if I had sent the sealed box to a TPG service to get an Early Release slab - and it came back as a Details grade?

Quote: Received my uncirculated dollar today, and it looks amazing! Any marks are on the capsule, not the coin. Very nice! Quote: I was not as fortunate as CollegeBarbers. Ouch.

Greetings everyone! Long long long time lurker, but I finally registered because of this coin.
I've only been ordering direct from the mint for about 6 years, unlike some of you who have a lot more experience. These are just my opinions and experience.
However on this particular series, the half dollars are just AWFUL. I generally order 2 of each type, this time 3. The proofs look like they were stored under an old RC Cola machine, scratched and filthy, one was decent enough to keep. I've never see this much "ugly" on a proof on the first shipping batch. Onto the UC version, the faces have dings and chunks missing. I kept one that was ok looking. Normally I would exchange, but I just requested a flat out refund. The automated system is also on the wonks, but chat can help send you a label.
I had them packed back up the same day and shipped out I didn't even think to get a pic. It was just more cost effective for me this time to buy some 70s slabbed.
Now in Philadelphia, all the dollars looked great. I predict the 99.9 silver will only continue to further the quality.
Good luck everyone.

to the CCF Camel! That's very disappointing about your halves. Sounds like the QC is really slacking. I've had to return several things to the Mint before as well.

Got my AL commemoratives in today and am thrilled! All were in great shape, no visible defect (at least, to my eye). The gold and silver designs are definitely on the short list of my favorite modern commem designs. Well done, U.S. Mint! Like others, I'm not so keen on the half clad obverse but the flag on the reverse is very nice. Sorry about your halves, Camel.

NGC finished grading the 6 I sent in, my cherry picking got me all 70s however they goofed on the label, they gave me "early releases" versus "first releases" like I normally get, I sent them an email the other day letting them know the information that was entered in on their end was incorrect and Lisa emailed back within a few minutes about trying to intercept it and apologized
But alas, always a day late and a dollar short and the images show "early" was sent out. Only messes with my OCD anyway.

Another 3 coin disappointment. Clunky art and boring topics. The tower depicted on the gold is a: another building (poor subject matter for coins) and b: a foreign building at that. The Half looks primitive and hastily produced and serves no purpose other than to reinforce the rainbow coalition. Dollar unimaginative and cluttered. I like The American Legion but the coins are lacking.

You're definitely entitled to your opinions but to me these designs are nothing close to clunky or boring. Other than the half design these are some of the most exciting designs I've seen on modern commems. To each their own, I guess...
