HI, I'm new here and not quite sure how this posting thingy works, but I hope I did it correctly. I'm also a newbie at this whole coin collecting hobby as well. I've looked and googled any info I might get or find on my 1940 Wheat penny that is in great, beautiful, toned condition. It appears to have a visible die mark just right above the 9 on the date. Looking to see if I can get anymore in fo about this penny. Thanks for looking and thank you in advance for any feedbacks given!

The coin appears worn and perhaps once cleaned, and I'm guessing that's just a small circulation hit.

I see okay, and what do you mean it's just a small circulation hit? Is there any value to this coin?

Means it's damage ( PMD).

Yes, it definitely has value above face.

to the Funny farm of of many sad responses!(We get a lot at first trying to figure these things out! LOL!)

Wheat cents are totally copper, and are worth at best 2-3 cents to a dealer. Your coin is a very common date and has no more special value unless it is a special variety or an error coin, which it doesn't appear to be. See how the 9 is widened at the 110 o'clock position? That too is a damage from contact in it's long life.

To CCF! It's not an error, just a well placed hit that caused the metal to flatten and move over. It was also possibly cleaned at one point too. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint). Only worth a couple of cents, since this is a pretty common date with a high mintage.
