The key to grading these in the letters in LIBERTY, which I can't see. However, the general condition and reverse look MS....about as far as I'd go without a better picture.

Better pictures are definitely needed here. The edges of the Liberty headband look quite sharp and this should mean the coin is likely AU-50 or better in terms of wear. However, the coin looks heavily corroded which I expect would essentially reduce it to cull status.

Here are some better pics! My scanner always seems to make my coins look much worse than they do in real life.

I think this is VF. To get to XF, you need to see diamonds on the OBV, in my opinion. I don't see any diamonds, unless it is the darkness of the picture. The coloration of the coin does not look natural to me, so it may have been cleaned.

You can't really use the diamonds for grading, though, since they're often weakly struck.

I'd agree on the coloration making it look like it had been cleaned, but then again scanners sometimes do funny things with colors.

As for grading I'd say at least VF; hard to go higher based on the pics. Odd that I can barely make out "liberty" but details in the headdress feathers are easily visible.

Thanks for your input, everyone! The coloration looks fairly natural to me and the "LIBERTY" is much easier to see as well. My theory is that this was about an EF (based on details seen in real life), but it may have been cleaned due to PVC damage or something. Either way, I only paid about $2 for it about 10 years ago. Do you think I got a good deal despite the possible damage?

I'm thinking about EF-40.

I think $2 is great for the grade of this coin today. I can't comment on 10 years ago, because I don't have any pricing info available. Probably $2 ten years ago was close to being steep.
Rest in Peace

From the pictures, looks around EF-AU. Seems like there is some wear on the bottom of the hair, but I could go better with better pictures. $2 is great, anyway.
