Charles I Oxford Crown ... A Fake? - Coin Community Forum

pdg Valued Member New Zealand 89 Posts	Posted 10/03/2018 05:05 am This looks like a Charles I Oxford crown from 1644. However, I believe only about 100 were made, which leads me to suspect this one is a fake. It has what looks like a 'PY' countermark near the date at about 7 o'clock. Sap Moderator Australia 16883 Posts	Posted 10/03/2018 10:19 pm Yep, it's marked "COPY", to comply with the Hobby Protection Act in America, which required replicas have COPY stamped onto them before they can be bought or sold, so I suspect yours was made for / sold in America. British-sold replicas usually just have a small symbol or monogram identifying the manufacturing company - such as the notorious WRL countermarks of Westair Reproductions Ltd.
