So if you go to sell it there will be no guessing what grade to list it as

Label is completely irrelevant on a cracked out coin when it comes to selling. You keep it because you want to or your own record, makes no difference selling

Good call to crack the coin. Fact is Fine-12 or even Very Fine-20 is not much more money than a Very Good-10 meaning that the slab will NOT trade at a bonus over a raw coin. Slabs like this are either a mistake when sent off or they were included in a large lot as veto bait to get other coins graded at the target grade by the submitter.

Disagree. Major TPG slab will always trade at a premium over a raw coin.

Not in this case. It's a $60 coin (in the NGC VG10 holder). Similar raw pieces also sell for $60 on ebay daily.

For reference here's the OP's coin ($53 delivered): https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-Lin...047675.l2557

This raw one is in similar condition and just sold today for $63 delivered: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-Lin...AOSwPb5b2lSn

That is true. And Coinfrog's comment is usually true also. Lower value coins like this one normally do not justify certification costs.

atchisonbj stated it well: "Slabs like this are either a mistake when sent off or they were included in a large lot....."

Correct, but as basebal21 said above, they are more liquid. Regardless, the person who paid to slab this coin gained less money as opposed to having left it raw.
