Thanks for sharing TNG.....those are some nice tickets and I never knew there were that many different types. I'm pretty sure I have a couple of those tucked away in a binder of misc tickets and currency but I know they aren't in as nice of shape as yours.

Here are a few more Columbian Exposition tickets and permits I have that are pretty cool.

I sure wish I was. If I could time travel, that's exactly when and where I would go!

I haven't checked this thread for a while, but I'm really enjoying all the Columbian Expo material you've posted, qktbird! I have a skinny 1981 catalog that compiles the known (at that time) tickets from that fair; have you seen this?

Hi GregAlex......yeah, I do have that Doolin catalog and have about 70% of what's listed and probably just as much that's not even listed in the catalog. It is a great reference book though and a nice one to have even though it doesn't have photo's of everything.

Hi Folks, I've been away for a while and figured I would share a few more rare tickets I have from the 1893 Columbian Exposition. The first one pictured is pretty cool since it was only good till December 31, 1891 so it would have been during the construction of the fair. The person it was issued to was one of the National Commissioners of Delaware.

Your first one seems strange. A pass good until December 1891 for the 1893 exposition. What good would that have been?

I'm guessing that since he was one of the National Commissioners for the state of Delaware, it was probably his pass to the grounds. I'm not sure if they had a building for holding meetings on the grounds or if it would have allowed him onto the grounds to see the progress or possibly to oversee the construction of the Delaware building on the grounds. It's hard to say for sure what he needed it for, but it was from the construction period so there are several possibilities that he may have needed the pass for. I've never seen another one like this so it is a pretty cool piece.

Here's another ticket from before the Columbian Expo actually opened too. This one was only good till October 18, 1892. I know they sold tickets to watch the construction of the fair and I think that may be what this one was for.

I have made a small discovery this morning about the 1876 United States (Philadelphia) International Exhibition Tickets.
Evidently the purpose of the Red Fifty Cents overprints seen on either blue or red serial numbered tickets was put on the tickets because those without the overprint have a small Fifty Cents already on them above the ADMIT THE BEARER text on the front.

The discovery has to do with the "Pink Back" or "Red Back" tickets with the red serial number on it.
These are different than the "White Backs" because the white backs do have the small Fifty Cents printed on them while the "Red Back" does not.
There may be other variations to be found out there after seeing this small but definite difference.
But now, my 4 ticket set has increased to 6 if I count what I think is a green fake or counterfeit.
I have found the green in grey ink with the same serial number on it on the internet. I have a green example.

Here's my new collage.

Post-Your-Exposition-And-World's-Fair-Tickets

There are FIVE tickets I have found to make my set of SIX for this type ticket.

Top Left has a GREEN serial number 89048 with a Green FIFTY CENTS overprint in green, and the front ink color is entirely green. The back is printed with black ink.
I believe to be a high quality fake, reprint or counterfeit. I have seen another ticket similar with same serial number 89048 as well in all dark gray ink.

Top Middle has a BLUE 95331 serial number with a FIFTY CENTS overprint in red

Top Right has a BLUE serial number 69359 with small FIFTY CENTS above the ADMIT THE BEARER text on the front.

Bottom Left has a RED serial number 31138 with a FIFTY CENTS overprint in red

Bottom Middle (Red Back) has a RED serial number 74956 without FIFTY CENTS overprint and without FIFTY CENTS above the ADMIT THE BEARER text on the front.

Bottom Right has a RED serial number 97078 without FIFTY CENTS overprint with small FIFTY CENTS above the ADMIT THE BEARER text on the front.
