From a recent CNG lot; bought it specifically for this coin, but didn't expect it to he so purdy!

Parthia, Vologases VI
208-228
AR Drachm
Obv: Bust of king left in tiara, Aramaic (?) ligature (wl?) Above right
Rev: Arsaces seated right with bow resting on table made of Ecbatana monogram; "impressionist" degraded Greek around.
Sellwood 88.something

Vologases-VI---The-Last-Parthian-King

Vologases VI succeeded his father Vologases V in 208, inheriting a war-torn and politically broken empire. His brother Artabanus V rebelled in 216 to seize control of the empire, and Vologases VI lost all of his holdings except the territory around Babylon.

Capitalizing on the civil war, the king of Persis, Arsashir, managed to conquer the bulk of Parthia and kill Artabanus V by 224. Vologases VI held out another 4 years, and then disappears from history; his last coins are dated to 228.

Super coin! Ron's got it right: Sellwood 88.18/Shore 456 - with Shore's monogram 84 (abbreviated king's name in Aramaic) behind the head on obverse.

That is one heckuva nice Parthian Steve. Congrats! By the way, the bow isn't resting on a table - it is a sawhorse and Arsaces is using a (bow) saw! Ha!

You guys are too much!

Looking at Sellwood 88.18, it looks like the top line of the reverse is supposed to be Aramaic. Not sure I'm seeing it, but I'll see if I can crack the code.

Actually, yours is a Vologases IV (dated 183/4 AD), not Vologases VI like Finn's.

Still a very nice tet, @AlRashid!

Took a swing at the Aramaic; it's a little too ambiguous, but I think it's supposed to read Arsaces; I was able to get something like RKSRAKR
