Looks like it spent some time outside in a parking lot where it was run over by a few cars - and you were close - it is "enviromental" toning making it darker than a normal silver colored quarter.

@jk, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that your quarter has just been damaged. This one is a spender.

Thank you guys for clearing this up for me. It was just a weird find to me because my knowledge on coins is so little at the moment compared to others. So I had to make a post about it. Tomorrow I have a few others id like to post as well. None like this one of course lol. These ones should actually have errors worth discussing.

Post minting damage ( PMD). Feel free to ask questions, no need to apologize.

To CCF! As said, it's just a damage coin. There's two terms that we use for this. The one I use (most preferably) is Post Strike Damage ( PSD). The second one that other members will use is Post Mint Damage ( PMD). Both of these terms mean the same exact thing, but the term Post Strike Damage is more preferably used by some. There's a discussion about this, if you are interested. http://goccf.com/t/324403I hope you will hang around with us! It's nice to see new members joining CCF everyday!
