I just got this in the mail. It's not the finest specimen but I couldn't pass up the price - and - I didn't have this 4 star variety. Grade and condition thoughts would be appreciated.

I agree with what the others say EXCEPT it may not be a DETAILS coin.
The planchets for 1811 came from England and were definitely substandard (porous).
Since it's the key date for that issue it's worth sending it in to a TPG.

Here's mine.

I would go a full 4. Don't dishonor it with a slab. Late die state with those massive Cuds, a very scarce coin in a scarce die state. I'll try not to keep drooling on my keyboard.

Lovely color.

Thanks all for your input - especially kanga and Paralyze. I usually send in some coins to NGC for grading in December. I may include this one - not sure. If I do I will update with the results on it.

Well I did send it in to see what the TPGers would have to say. I knew it would probably come back 'details' but I was hoping they would consider the poor planchet quality of the 1811 Half Cents... At least I have a v. scarce 4 star break variety - one of only about 36 I think. Congratulations to those who graded it correctly. Here it is ( sorry for the poor pic) :

Thanks for the update. Love how the numbers of the date look all jumbled.

Agree, good effort, still a scarce coin - and indeed a whacko date logo.
