Perhaps, but unlikely, the damage occurred at the mint during the bagging and distribution process - most likely the damage already noted above happened with the coin in circulation. That is, something that happened to the coin after the minting process (some prefer the term "Post-Strike Damage"). Regardless... what you have is worth a nickel.
