Any chance on you posting a slightly less close-up pic (but in focus)? I'm having a hard time seeing the letter Y in your pic so far.

OK yes, the pic is still pretty rough, but at least now I can kinda see what you mean about a letter Y. I do see a linear region going from the left hand side of the horizontal stroke to about midway down on the vertical stroke. It does look like a letter Y, but cannot be that so it must be Pareidolia. I see a few scratches around the date, could it be a well-placed scratch? Is the linear portion raised above or incuse compared to the field of the coin? Maybe with the coin in hand, you can see it a little better.

Could this be a bit of double die? I have not looked this close to modern pennies like this to tell if that is the normal appearance but looking at the 1 in the date as well as the rest of the date and the mint mark it appears to be a case of a double die situation.
