1848 Seated dollar:

With a tiny mintage only 15,000, the 1848 Seated dollar has the lowest mintage of any of the dates from the 1840s, bar none. The same can be said of the surviving population tabulated by PCGS; the 1848 has the lowest population of any date from the 1840s. It does not have the lowest population of Mint State examples, but it is not that far behind. Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing estimate that only 750 coins survived clearly making it the rarest sld issue of the 1840's.

I need many key dates still but don't have the budget to pursue them for now. A 1909-S IHC and a 1916-D Mercury dime will finish those Danscos, and my LWC Dansco need a 1914-D and 1909 S-VDB.

Sweet! I think I definitely need to consider adding a 1916-S Walking Liberty half dollar to my collection sometime in the near future.

The 1870 CC Dollar would probably qualify as a key date.

The 1861 Seated dollar is a low mintage Civil War date.

The 1794 Half Dollar was the first of this denomination struck by the U.S mint.

The 1796 Dime was also the first dime struck by the US mint at Philadelphia.

The 1804 Draped Bust quarter was not the first quarter struck by the mint (that honour belongs to the 1796 Quarter), but it is the first of the Heraldic Eagle type and a low mintage issue.

1809 is one of the three most popular (and scarcest) dates in the Capped Bust dime series.

Also among the top 3 keys in the Bust Dime series are the dimes of 1811/09.
(These examples show the progression of the reverse die breaks).
