Quote: .930 oz I'd expect! Yes, .930 oz (avoirdupois) is what it should weigh with the hole/wear. About 26.4 grams. The picture showing it next to a Morgan dollar demonstrates the correct size. It can't weigh .930 grams.

Found it. Are you sure you are it weighing it correctly? It should weigh 26.73 grams or .86 in ounces. Given the hole the weight would be lower say around 24-25 grams. I don't see any obvious signs in the date that it's a fake. Is that scale accurate?

Guys, thank you for all the kind responses. I mistakenly put (g) in the original post. The coin is 26.4 grams or .930 ounces!

If that's how much it weighs then there is no other conclusion to draw other than it's a counterfeit. A Seated dollar without a large hole should weigh .86 in ounces and would be significantly lower than that with the hole.

Exactly what it should weigh. The hole would subtract very little weight. It only covers about 1% of the coin's surface area.

Ok got it. .93 ounces avoirdupois to grams is 26.37 grams. https://www.unitjuggler.com/convert...tml?val=0.93That number still sounds heavy due to the large hole. It's already going to lose weight from circulation but it's only lost .36 grams? Not to be master of the obvious but on value it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it assuming it's authentic. I see a lot of these on ebay up for action and know anther dealer who deals in holed sld's because he says he can make better margins off of them. This one does have some things going for it. I'm guessing from the limited pictures you provided it has attractive toning, though you also say it has a blue look. Better pictures would help.

I know this story has been concluded for a while, but I couldn't stop myself from noting that if you all south of the border would just switch to the greatness that is metric, things would be muuuuch easier.

Truth. We started to make the shift in the 1970s, but then I have no idea what happened.

Yeah but this is a US section. I vote for no metric in US forums.

I better not forget to take my 10 mg dose of Zyrtec that morning. When we are done I will celebrate with a 500 mL Pepsi. Oh, hey, our coins are metric, right? Well, except for the quarter.

You're going down Jbuck. I found this holed Seated dollar looking for fakes today. Some of these holed coins have some of the most beautiful original surfaces. I guess that's due to dealers in the 70's thinking they weren't worthy of cleaning due to the damage. I wish they would have left all Seated dollars alone like this one. This example is if you ignore the hole and the graffiti. It matches the patina on my 1844. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1860-O-SEA...ka:rk:8:pf:0
