I was looking through a cent roll and found this 1979 D cent. I found that the mint mark appear to be filled and on the reverse the states appeared to be very lightly punches (Maybe grease in the die). I also can find the E on E-Pluribus-Unun.
Could the reverse side items I have observed are grease in the die? but what is the mint mark being filled with copper?
Yes the post in the die that was used to create this cent had broken off and therefore some metal was able to flow into the center of the letter D. It is a neat thing to find, but doesn't really add to the value.
