I have several 1971 penny's in which I can't distinguish if it is small date or large. Please advice.

I don't think that Small Dates or Large Dates exist for that year.

They are just normal dates. Only certain year had large and small dates. If the date had no year variety, they are normal cents. 1960, 1970-S, 1974 and 1982 were the years with large and small dates. The other years, regardless of size of the digits, are normal cents for those years.

Sometimes dies are over polished, and that will reduce the size of the devices. But no such thing as a small date that year:

Small, large, doesn't matter since they're all the same size during 1971.
