Are ya ready for this? My daughters grandma wanted to "just deposit this in the bank"--I offered to give her "face value" for the lot not knowing what she had and what stuff it was, she excepted. War Nickels: 9-1942, 13-1943, 11-1944, 3-1945. Walking Libs: 1 of each, 1933,1941,1945,(3ea)1944,1943. 1-1964 kennedy, 1976 kennedy,3x-ike dollars. 2 silver quarters, 8x-silver dimes, a very worn out Standing Liberty quarter, date unreadable. 1ea morgans, 1886,1899,1921-1 peace 1923.--paper--1973 $1 Canada, 1-1986 $2 Canada. USA-(2ea)1957, 1935 silver cert, (3ea) 1972 $2,a 1961 Russian Ruble I think (has CCCP on note). 1 Buffalo nickel, and finally a 1923 penny--Whew--I wonder, Is this stuff worth anything?--You guys would freak out if I told ya what I paid for the loty---

LIM, I just read your post dated april 20th about the Gold and silver "golden Jubilee $20 coin". I thought "what the? I haven't seen this before". I had to search through Macca's to find it. the coin just doesn't look the same in black and white. What a beauty!

While they are nothing spectacular Aussie UNC 1942D and UNC 1942S threepence I bought this week have certainly had me thinking. The reason? Just speculating about the history of the coins. You see, I bought them from a collector in Portland , Oregon. So by my reckoning these Australian coins were minted in Denver and San Francisco, and then sent back to Australia where they were snaffled by a collector. At some stage they were purchased by the collector in the US (or perhaps taken over the pond by him). Now they've been sent back to me in Australia. Thats 3 trips across the Pacific minimum they've done. If only they could speak!

Hey Rick: My best friend in law school grew up in the CCCP (USSR). Here's a whaddya-callit (a phonetic trascription or something): all the "C's" are soft, like "S's": Cayooze Covietsky Cozialistichesky Respublic(Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics) Note the plural "republics" - many of them are modern countries thatn end with "stan" (Kazakstan, etc. - not Pakistan nor Afghanistan - though not for want of trying by the Red Army), and other are more well known countires like Ukraine and Georgia (not the one with Atlanta) . (Sorry to anyone who found the geography lesson tedious . My coin of the week (or so) is a 1927-S Peace dollar graded MS63 by PCGS.[:p] One step closer to post-partem depression (finishing the set). Sorry, all I have is dealer's pix at this time:

RenaL: 1st: Thank you for the link to the coin/blog site with all the beautiful images. I was particularly taken with the Czech Republic coins - the coin shown and the linked images of Czech commems makes me want to get one![:p][:p] Won this coin on ebay today. Only dealers pix I'm afraid. Since acquiring a small reference book on Walkers, I've learned so much on how to better focus my coin hunting. The 1935-D is one of the most interesting dates in the Walker series, at least in Mint State. No one, apparently, has ever seen a fully struck specimen of this date/mm. Even though the focus of interest is mainly on uncirculated coins, the search for a good strike straddles the boundaries of circ'd/uncirc'd. I'll let you know when it arrives, but the images look promising.
