I don't collect cobs but, thanks to this thread, they were on my mind so when I spotted a decent looking example on Heritage I tracked it to see how it would sell. Not only that but I logged in during the live auction and saw no bidding action so I placed a cut bid and won. My apologies if I outbid anyone here -- my intent was to show the quality of cob that can be obtained in the $200-$300 range.
This one hammered at $210 USD and with the buyers premium plus shipping the total was $263 for an NGC certified, albeit details, grade cob. It would not have caught my attention except that it has a uniform strike showing all the key details on both sides. Next time you see a possible shipwreck cob make sure you compare it to a collectable quality cob before you take the plunge.
